Forget the future! Live in today!

Have you always waited and wondered – what next?

A super achiever, a New Age entrepreneur, a serial investor with a can-do mindset, always-on, never-off, ticking off items from your To-Do-List, and suddenly, one fine morning, you wake up to the realization – Is this all there is to Life?

Or, could there be more that I haven’t explored?

It happens to me. At various, vulnerable, naked moments of my life. When I’ve just faced a stark truth.

At that moment, all the milestones that I’ve been setting for myself, lose their shine; their meaning. Only, the truth matters.

At such moments, I long to be a child again.

Carefree, not careworn.

Dreamy, not calculated.

Careless, not careful.

Curious, not Conniving.

Looking at my toddler son, I’ve always felt that the worst I can do for him is force fit him into the mould of an adult.

It’s so sad when we measure ourselves by what we achieved at 10, 20, 30, 40, or 50. A life cannot be measured by the number of years. Some lessons down in a minute; some take a lifetime to learn, wouldn’t you agree?

I’ve learnt that taking it easy and following your natural rhythms is much more important than following the ticking clock.

The present is all we have. The future is just a dream.

In fact, even the future comes to us as the present. So why not live in the here and now?

When you feel good inside, you can be better outside. You can be more productive in your career, your business; in your conduct with your boss, customers, colleagues or employees. Setting goals by the second, minute, hour or years, can make every task appear like a chore. It can soak up all creativity out of the job.

Instead, take it slow. Don’t follow the straight and narrow. It’s often the most ordinary people, who achieve the most extraordinary goals in life.

Once-in-a-while, give yourself a break from the tedium of daily routine. If you think goals are getting in the way of your happiness – toss them aside.

You, and your happiness are more important than those goals.

We’d love to hear your thoughts on this.
